Sabo’s record label, Sol Selectas, presents a thrilling organic house EP by Milam, which has melodic grooves and deep atmosphere. There is also an indie dance remix by Akira Arasawa.
Milam’s style combines techy percussion with immersive pads and spellbinding melodies, to create magical organic house tracks that have a timeless sound. He has previously featured on the labels like • kosa •, and this is his debut release on Sol Selectas.
Based in Hong Kong, Milam is a leading light within the thriving Asian scene. He is part of a trio that heads up Nodes Rec, which alongside releasing his own music, shines a light on other emerging artists from Asia.
Talking about this release, Milam said: “I wanted to make very deep and emotional tracks contrary to what is popular these days. I want to help people feel deeply again.”
On remix duty, Akira Arasawa is a Japanese artist from Tokyo, and his funk-infused style switches between organic house and indie dance. His music combines flowing drums with infectious basslines, and he has previously featured on record labels such as Sounds of Khemit, Akbal Music, and Shango Records.
“Mt Fuji Is a Pyramid” opens the release with juddering percussion, acid bass, and sparkling strings, forming a foundation for angelic pads and cascading Middle Eastern melodies.
Akira Arasawa’s remix of “Mt Fuji Is a Pyramid” adds traditional Asian strings and streamlines the percussion, while also adding a new bassline with hints of funk.
The title track, “Al Gaib” closes the release with spiralling synth melodies and shuffling percussion, forming a framework for nomadic pad sweeps and bass swells.
The artwork by Helia Jamali complements the music, where visual dreams come to life, with Mount Fuji rising against ancient scrolls and bathed in a hypnotic, glowing sunset.
